Home is where the heart is, yet as so many of us who love a good meal know, the quickest way to the heart can be through the stomach—or taste buds. Our culinary services team is dedicated to nourishing our residents, body and soul, with tasty, heart-healthy meals.
To celebrate, we’re hosting a special “Caring is a Work of Heart” culinary event, and invite you to join us for a delicious meal and to learn about the benefits our residents receive from our nutritional strategy. Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 5th, from 10:00 - 11:30am when Chef Yelena Smith offers you the chance to experience the great flavor and warm feeling of a delicious meal with our culinary team.
At Cambridge Court Assisted Living, our residents’ quality of life depends on feeling satisfied with the little things. And as our chef, Yelena Smith understands the tremendous pleasure food can offer. Every day she works hard to make magic for our residents with well-prepared meals. “I find cooking creative and relaxing, and I love to see happy faces and hear, ‘This meal is the best I ever had!’” Yelena says. “It doesn’t sound much like work, does it?”
Growing up, Yelena’s mother didn’t like to spend time in the kitchen. Yelena says she made one thing over and over again. “I hated that, so I started to make my own dishes. I think I was seven when I prepared my first dish.” The dish was a little appetizer for her mother—nothing much—but it marked the first time Yelena felt the absolute thrill of satisfaction of doing something she loved. “So now, when residents ask for second portions or come for more cookies or ask for the recipe to a dish I made, I know I made somebody happy,” she says. “It’s my work of heart.”
